About 800 residents in Nyamira will benefit in phase one of the solar lighting project being undertaken by the county government.
The project seeks to help poor households who can't afford electricity, said Governor John Nyagarama on Monday.
Speaking to journalists at Bomwagamo, Nyagarama said 40 residents from every ward will benefit from the project. The county has 20 wards.
“Already, the county government has commenced connecting residents with the solar lights in the first phase which will cost Sh7 million,” said Nyagarama
“In the second phase, 1,600 people will be connected with the solar lights. We need our people to enjoy with light in their homes which will be provided by county government,” he added
Rose Kerubo a resident at Bomwagamo lauded the county for the project saying she has been spending Sh70 every night to buy kerosene to light her lamp.
