Youth Polytechnics tutors within Kisii County had a meeting on Friday with their leaders at the  Kisii culture hall to address various issues.

In attendance was Mr Bulemi Mukaya, director of Kisii polytechnics and Kisii county minister for education Mr Amos Andama.

The issues included lack of enough teaching equipment, delayed salaries, and employment.

Polytechnic tutors claimed not to have received their salaries for the past 8 months.

The youth polytechnics have no adequate trainers neither do they have modern teaching equipment to help in learning.

Addressing the teachers, Andama promised that the county government will pay the unpaid salaries in 3 months time or earlier and employments of additions trainers will be done.

"The governor has promised that our needy students will be sponsored and he will introduce internship programmes for these students within the county," Mr Andama concluded.

Kisii county has 61 polytechnics of which 45 of them are operational but plans to revive the "dead" ones are underway.

"I am happy with what we have discussed in the meeting but I hope the promises will be fulfilled. We will judge them once the 3months are over," said Moses Nyambuto, a masonry trainer in Gotichaki Polytechnic, South Mugirango.

Josiah Ombasa, a trainer at Nyaore youths polytechnic, said that lack of funds arose after the introduction of devolved government.
