On Thursday, the Meteorological Department warned that the rains that the country is currently witnessing are set to continue for the better part of June.

However, the Director of Special Programmes at the County Eric Odida says that the county is doing all it can to ensure that the effects of the rains in the region are going to be countered as his office is currently putting some measures in place to achieve that mission.

He cited that the Lake Basin region alongside other highland regions in the country will be the most affected.

"As a county government, we are determined to ensure that we deal with the effects of too much rain in the area in an appropriate way. We are currently engaging various stakeholders to achieve this. We are working hand in hand with the national government through the office of the county commissioner and we also work with the NGOs in the area and other humanitarian organizations," said Mr Odida on Thursday.

He said his office will hire some evacuation vehicles to be used to evacuate those who may be affected by the perennial flooding in the region.

He further added that he is also going to ensure that food stuffs are made available to cater for those people who may be in dire need for food when the rains persist.
