Governor Evans Kidero received the second-hand fire engines from Japanese ambassador Toshitsugu Uesawa.

The four engines are expected to boost the city's capacity to fight fire as it has not kept up with the speed at which it is growing as well as improve the responsiveness of the fire brigade which has in the past been accused of failing to effectively tackle fires in the capital city.

“Japanese support for the Nairobi Fire Service is not just limited to the provision of equipment, but also the provision of technical training in Nairobi by sending experts from the Japanese Firefighters Association,” Mr Uesawa said.

Earlier on, training had been offered to Nairobi firefighters on how to use the equipment from their Japanese counterparts.

The four engines comprise of three engines with pump and water tanks and one is a chemical fire engine.
