On Tuesday, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero said his administration will now respond better to fire incidents which are rampant in the capital city, especially in slums.

According to the Star, the second-hand machines were donated by the Japanese Fire Fighting Association.

"We are definitely going to improve our response, especially for those incidences that occur in informal settlements," Kidero said as quoted by the Star.

Nairobi County has six working fire engines but is overwhelmed by their demand.

“We hope the four will help bridge the gap," added the county boss.

Japanese ambassador to Kenya Toshitsuga Uesawa said firefighters from his country will also offer training to their Kenyan counterparts.

"Japanese support for Nairobi fire is not only limited to the provision of equipment but also the provision of technical training in Nairobi," he said.

"We have to be responsible about how we remove fire hazards from our homes, schools, offices, factories and other establishments," he said.
