The move by the county government of Uasin Gishu to move Eldoret street children back to their 'homes' has been termed as out of order and inhuman.
The chairman of the Council of Imams and Muslim Preachers of Kenya in the County, Abubakar Bini on Tuesday said that the move by the county government was unlawful and went against the rights of the children as citizens of Kenya.
"I was very saddened when I saw in one of the media stations that street children from Eldoret were being transported and dumped at the Malaba border in the name of taking them back to their roots," he said.
"What criteria did they use to know where the street children came from and yet most of them were born in the streets? How do they expect them to know their homes for God's sake?" asked.
The cleric said that instead of the Uasin Gishu government returning the street children back to their purported homes it should have rounded them up and enrolled them in rehabilitation centres.
Bini argues that they could be rehabilitated into normal members of society through training them in fields such as tailoring, mechanics and hairdressing, among others.
He says rehabilitation alone that can ensure the menace of street children is done away with.
The Muslim cleric urged the county government to rethink the move stressing it was inhumane and unconstitutional.
