Precautionary measures have been taken up by the county government of Kisii to ensure that Cholera does not spread.
This comes after it was reported that the disease was spreading fast in Homabay, with Rongo town being said to be the most affected.
Speaking at his office, county director of health Dr. Geofrey Otomu said that medical officers have been sent to the Gucha south district to educate the residents on how to prevent the disease from infecting them.
“We have released our public health officers to the area to ensure the disease doesn’t spread to our county, and anyone that will show the symptoms should be isolated for treatment,” Otomu said.
Otomu said that they have cautioned people to stop selling food in road side Kiosks in the area.
He also said that the symptoms of the disease are diarrhea and vomiting, and asked anyone purported to have the disease to be reported.
He said that the disease was spread through food and water, he called on residents to ensure the water and food they consume is thoroughly prepared.
“You should make sure you use good water and thoroughly prepared food to avoid contacting this disease,” said Dr. Otomu.
