Farmers across Nyamira County have a reason to smile after the county government announced that they will be carrying free soils test for them.
According to Nyamira County Agriculture Executive Peris Mong’are, the agriculture department decided to carry out the exercise to ensure that every farmer knows the type of fertiliser to be used and the types of crops to grow on the soils.
Speaking on Wednesday in her office in Nyamira town, the executive said the county government of Nyamira is looking forward to ensure that every farmer get the best out of the small land they own.
She said soil testing was aimed at improving productivity, which is meant to achieve food security and high incomes by farmers.
Mong'are further said with the mobile soil testing and automatic weather stations, farmers will get appropriate weather updates and will be able to produce maximally.
“We know Nyamira County holds the best land for farming, and there is need for us to ensure that we get more from the less land we have through using the modern technology,” she added.
She called upon farmers to cooperate with county agriculture officials in the exercise that will kick in a week's time.
