The Nakuru county government is in speed to complete all stalled markets in the county as a way of increasing space for the growing small scale traders.

Trade CeC Peter Ketyenya said that the county has already set aside a budget for completing the stalled Nasha square and Kiratina markets He said that completion of the two markets will help in easing congestion at the main market in Nakuru town.

According to the county trade boss completion of the two markets will not only create more space for traders but also increase revenue collection for the county as well as creating employment for hundreds of people.

“We want to de-congest the main market in the CBD and that is why we are working round the clock to complete the construction of Nasha and Kiratina markets which had stalled,” said Ketyenya.

“We have already awarded a new contract for the Nasha market and we expect the contractor to be on site any time from now,” he said.

The CeC added that the county government is also working to enhance sanitation within the markets by ensuring that the markets have functional toilets and sufficient water supply.

“We just don’t want to have markets but we want to have markets that provide a conducive environment for our traders’ .We will work to ensure that the markets have adequate supply of water and other amenities like toilets,” he said.
