The County Assembly of Kisumu is set to buy iPads for its members amid protests from the locals.
The assembly has already invited bidders in a tender notice dated May 4 that was published in Daily Nation sparking protests among the residents.
Reports indicate that the intention of acquiring the iPads is to make the Ward Representatives paperless in their doings and enable them carry work documents home.
“There is need for the assembly to go paperless. We are also in the process of upgrading the Hansar,” said Mr George Olwal for Kolwa Central as quoted by Business Daily.
It is not clear how much the devices will cost the taxpayer.
The move comes barely five years after the county assembly boughtsimilar gadgets for the last Ward Reps, most of wom were sent home.
In the last assembly, the iPads were not so effective as a section of MCAs were not conversant with them and even demanded training on the same.
The residents called upon the former MCAs, to return the iPads so that the new legislators can use them in the chambers.
According to the residents, using the previous iPads will help save county expenses.
