Nakuru government has set aside Sh70 million to train youths in polytechnic and other tertiary institutions, County youth Director Josphat Kimemia has said.

Speaking to journalists at Nakuru town on Thursday, Kimemia said that the county will sponsor youths from all parts of the county.

He added that those willing to be trained will have to send in applications which will be vetted before the sponsorships are awarded.

The official further noted that the move by the government is meant to address rising cases of unemployment, adding that through this training youths will be empowered and gain skills to create job opportunities instead of waiting for white collar jobs.

“The county government has set aside enough funds meant to train youths in polytechnics across Nakuru and also other institutions,” said Kimemia.

The director said that the sponsorships will be awarded on transparent basis, and that only those who meet eligibility standards will be considered.

Meanwhile, has urged youths across Nakuru to apply for the money provided by the county and the national government observing that young people have an opportunity to improve their living standards through these funds.

He added that unemployment would be a thing of the past if youths take the bold step of seeking development funds.

The official stated that the county government is initiating projects that will ensure young people are fully engaged in development.
