Elgeyo Marakwet County government has set aside Sh 19 million to undertake a water project that is expected to end perennial water shortage in Kapsowar town and its environs.
The project will include rehabilitation of water intakes in Kipkunur forest that is the main water catchment in the Sub County and installation of distribution lines as well as water treatment.
The County Governor Alex Tolgos said the project is part of the county flagship projects in Marakwet west Sub County that will be completed in his second term.
Speaking after visiting two water intakes in Kipkunur forest in Marakwet west Sub County, the governor said over the years, the town has suffered water shortage undermining its growth.
The water intake will benefit over 8,000 people living in Kapsowar town, hospitals and other public institutions in the town he noted.
This comes as a relief to the residents and business people who have suffered water shortage over the years. Some traders have had their businesses closed down because they lacked water in their premises.
