The Nakuru county government has set aside Sh60 million for a tree planting exercise which will see at least 250,000 tree seedlings planted in each of the 55 wards in the county

Nakuru county assembly speaker Eng Maina Kairu said that the assembly has already approved the budget for the tree planting exercise and urged members of the public to get fully involved in the important exercise

The  Speaker spoke when he led members of the county assembly committees on environment in planting trees to commemorate the national tree planting day at the county assembly grounds.

Kairu said that planting of trees will not only help in conserving the environment but will also ensure that the nation has adequate supply of water.

He noted the importance of conserving Kenyan water towers saying that they were vital and not only Kenya but also other countries depend on them.

He added Egypt which relies on river Nile will greatly be affected should Kenya fail to protect her water towers.
