The county government of Nakuru has moved in to end the recent wrangles over who should manage public toilets in Nakuru town.
This is after the county government entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with four business groups that will jointly manage these facilities. County government lawyer Hari Gakinya represented the county in signing the MOU with the four groups ending the control of the public toilets by a group of youths alleged to belong to the outlawed Mungiki sect.
“There are only four registered groups that have the mandate to manage this facility on a rotational basis. These groups represent hawkers, shoe shiners, photographers, touts and Mashambani Open Door Self Help Group,” businessman Johanna Gachau was quoted on Citizen Tv.
The MOU stipulates that the four groups will ensure the government levies are met and proper hygiene standards are maintained in the facilities.
Matatu Touts Association’s Johanna Gachau lauded the change by the county government, vowing to ensure proper management of the facilities.
According to Gachau, the facilities generate as much as Ksh15,000 on a good day.
