Nakuru County is spending much of their budget on recurrent expenditure leaving only a small amount for development.
Financial experts have already raised concerns over the direction the county is taking in terms of spending and development.
This came after it emerged that the county will spend a whopping 42% of its budget to pay salaries.
Elmentaita MCA Moses Kamau, who lead the county’s Finance committee, said that the county cannot afford to have an increase of employees.
“This will increase the personnel emolument from Sh5.2 billion to Sh6 billion, implying that 47 per cent of the total budget will be used,” the MCA said.
The revelations come at the backdrop of increased debt burden accrued by the county.
Residents have been complaining of the fact that there no outstanding development projects despite the president announcing that the county has raked a cool 23 billion from the National Treasury.
