Five employees of the Nairobi county government, who were found with Sh7 million in their office, have insisted that they have no case to answer.

The workers now want the court to bar Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Keriako Tobiko from prosecuting them over abuse of office.

They are Luke Gatimu Nixon Awuor, Shaban Asman, Maurice Ochieng and Bedan Wambui.

The workers argue that there is a need for their case to be quashed or else they will suffer prejudice.

The five were arrested after being found in possession of Sh7, 803,876 at City Hall's cash office yet they were supposed to have taken the money to the bank.

The arrest of the five came after the county boss, Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko filed a complaint with the police.

The suspects appeared before resident magistrate Sinkian Tobiko where they were accused several charges including abuse of office.

Through their lawyer, John Khaminwa, the five want their case dismissed because they will suffer great losses.

Sonko had said that revenue in the county had increased from Sh7 million to Sh14 million but the officers were not performing their duty as expected.
