Lamu County Commissioner's office has began recruiting community policing group members following last week's disbandment of the previous team by Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa.

Marwa said the groups formed and headed by chiefs were compromised and corrupt.

He directed the county chief Gilbert Kitiyo and his deputy Louis Rono to form effective community policing groups in Witu, Hindi, Mpeketoni, Basuba, Kiunga and other areas witnessing Al Shabaab attacks.

Marwa also directed that all communities in the targeted areas be presented in the new policing teams.

He warned that the new team to be formed should be transparent, honesty and work to help security officers curb the attacks from the Al Shaabab militants who been terrorizing and killing residents.
