Kisii county government has started repairing sewage pipes that broke and contaminated rivers with fresh water such as Riana River.

Kisii County chief officer for water Zablon Ongori on Friday speaking in Kisii town said already blocked pipes have been unblocked to ensure the free flow of water.

“We are trying to establish where the blockage started from to ensure all broken pipes are replaced or repaired and unblock pipes that blocked due to heavy rains,” he said.

Ongori assured that health officials will be on high alert to prevent any outbreak of diseases such as Cholera and typhoid.

“Lives will not be at risk because necessary measures have been put in place to curb any outbreak of diseases. Residents are assured of their good health,” added Ongori.

He advised locals to treat water before drinking to avoid contradicting diseases associated to dirty water.
