Uasin County Cultural Officer, Mr Mohammed Dakane has said unity and peaceful co-existence should be promoted in the counties.

In an interview in his office yesterday, Dakane said in order for people to co-exist peacefully, forums should be organised to bring people together to understand and appreciate each other’s culture and traditions. Dakane said the County has been organising events to enable different tribes residing in Uasin Gishu unite and appreciate their diverse cultures.

“A grand inter-community peace and a cultural festival to promote tolerance will soon be in the County’s calendar of events,” he added Apart from the cultural festival,  the officer said there are other cultural shows lined up for the county to ensure unity is promoted to the fullest. Dakane said the scheduled events will bring representatives from all the communities residing in the county. “It is through forums like these that people interact and develop good relations and the more the number of events the closer the people come together,” said Dakane.

According to him, the Council of Elders had not been left out in these programmes as they get involved in peace keeping initiatives.Dakane said that the young people were critical in promoting peaceful co-existence adding that those who had shown capability in various fields will be supported to enhance their talents. He said capacity building shows for visual artists and upcoming talents are often held and nurtured to occupy the youth and reduce the rate of drug abuse in the county.“A standup comedy show for Uasin Gishu County will be launched soon since the youth had shown immense talent in the field” said the cultural officer.
