Kisii county government has said that they have put in place measures to increase maize production.
Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said that they are looking at ensuring that the County produces double the number of tonnes that were produced in last season and they will achieve that by ensuring each farmer access subsidized fertilizer and seeds.
"The County has already purchased fertilizer and each farmer will purchase a 50-kilogramme bag of subsidized fertilizer for Sh.1, 800 and Sh.1, 500 for DAP and CAN respectively," said Maangi.
The Deputy Governor said that most of the f carried out primary cultivation during the prevailing dry spell in order for the weeds to dry and they expect the plantation to commence once the rains reduce.
He stated that secondary cultivation and planting will be done at the onset of the rains in mid-March to realize good returns.
Meanwhile, the county administration been organizing public forums at the ward level and training farmers on the latest appropriate technologies.
Mr Maangi, however, urged the farmers to ensure that they visit all County ward administrators office so that they can be guided on how they can receive the fertilizers as well seeds.
