Clerics in Garissa have decried over the increasing rate of divorce in the region.
They claimed that the number of couples camping at the Kadhi offices daily demanding for separation is alarming, leading to a breakdown of families and creation of hostilities among the couple's relatives.
Abdirahman Osman, a prominent cleric, has attributed the cause of separations to sheer negligence and misunderstanding among the couples.
" When one partner abdicates his or her duties, this leads to clashes among the couples and subsequently unprecedented separations are witnessed," said the cleric.
The cleric has instead urged the partners to solve their misunderstandings amicably without dragging it to the Kadhi offices seeking for a divorce.
"When two people live together, small misunderstandings are inevitable. So it wiser to solve them privately instead of bringing to Kadhi offices. Divorce is not just a walk in the park. Divorce breaks families create hostilities and hatred. Let us not rush for divorces when we have not exhausted other recommended channels of settling marriage disputes," added the cleric.
Amina Mahbub, a divorcee, claimed that the separation becomes imperative when the unity turns chaotic courtesy of perpetual dereliction of duties among the husbands.
" When a father fails to provide for his children, what is the need of staying with him. You better walk away before more trouble catches you," said Amina.
According to a data at the Kadhi offices, in every 5 couples living in the region, 2 separates daily for miscellaneous reasons.
