Kisumu County government has signed an MoU with three sugarcane factories to repair access roads leading to the factories.
Speaking to journalist at the governor's board room Roads CeC Hanif Rana said that the MoU was signed between the county government and Muhoroni, Kibos and Chemelil sugar factories.
“Farmers will be able to effectively transport their sugarcane from their farms to the factory on time.We wanted to open up some of other roads so that before heavy rains start we should have opened a lot of this access roads," said Rana.
He added:" We can see public-private partnership in action where the sugar company and the county government of Kisumu are working to increase sugarcane production."
Speaking in the same event Roads CeC Samuel Ondola the MoU will fast track the road construction, repairs and maintenance can be undertaken in the sugar growing areas.
"We have had delays especially with contracted work. We want the MoU to enable the roads to be completed in the duration stipulated in the tender document," said Ondola.
Ondola said the repair of the roads will increase the production of sugar within the three sugar factories.
"The county government is contributing fuel, murram and operators of the machine as the tipper and tracks.The sugar factories will be providing heavy machine like excavators," said Ondola.
