Uasin Gishu’s department of Health Service is working hard towards realising national child immunisation rates of 90 percent.
Nationally, 1.5 million children have subjected to vaccination annually where’s in Uasin Gishu County, over 40,000 children undergo the same vaccination which represents 80 percent of the total population.
Dr. Evans Kiprotich, Director of Health in the county says that approximately 20 percent of children do not complete treatment as required by EPI schedule.
The county government has opened 17 new immunization facilities totaling to 117 immunization centers across the county.
Speaking on Thursday during the training of representatives from the immunization facilities in Eldoret Hotel, Dr. Kiprotich said that there are more than 26 new dispensaries that have been established by the county government of Uasin Gishu under the leadership of Governor Jackson Mandago.
He argued that upon starting full operations, these facilities will also act as immunization centers.
“despite having the newly established dispensaries we are going to increase the number of outreach centers by identifying schools, cultural sites among other areas that can be accessed,” added Kiprotich.
Uasin Gishu county government is planning to incorporate other stakeholders on the same so as to help promote the immunization strategy.
