North Seme Ward MCA James Okoth said the tractors, which were purchased to help alleviate poverty have done little, and there is no information regarding how they can be hired, adding that locals in his ward are concerned.

He said the idea of purchasing the tractors was good since it would improve farming activities in the sub-countie, but the concept has failed.

He noted that most people are now staring at poverty in their faces because they have not tilled their lands.

Speaking in Kisumu, the MCA urged the CeC in charge to spell out the structures of accessing the tractors at the sub-county level.

“We demand to know who is in charge of the tractors at every sub-county and how farmers can access them,” he said.

He urged the county to also explain how it has carried out the distribution of free seeds and fertilizers for farmers to use during the planting season.

Kisumu County had acquired 24 tractors that were to be used by farmers at subsidized rates.
