The Nakuru County government will construct sheds for hawkers at Langalanga Stage area for Sh25 million, the governor has revealed.
Speaking to journalists in Nakuru, county Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said that they will build better and modern shades for the 28,000 hawkers, who were operating in the Central Business District before they were relocated.
Kinuthia said that the modern market will also have modern toilets and other better facilities, to help them in their businesses.
“We have already secured a better place to relocate them to. This will create a better environment for them to work in and will also ease the town of congestion,” he added.
Kinuthia cited that the first phase of the relocation was underway, and they hope to do more in the near future.
“We have relocated majority of the hawkers to the Langalanga Main stage. Others will be relocated to behind signature alley, Railway grounds and next to Jamia Food mart. The spill over of the hawkers will be distributed in all the above mentioned regions,” he added.
Kinuthia said that the move would help clean the area and make it easier to access.
“We want to restore the town to the initial glory it had. This is for the betterment of the county residents. We have a great work plan that will ensure both the government and the hawkers benefit if adhered to,” he added.
