The county government will cater for the funeral expenses for the children who died in an accident at Awasi on Tuesday.
Governor Jack Ranguma said on Wednesday in a statement that his government will foot expenses for the five children who were killed in an accident along Kisumu- Kericho highway.
“The county government will foot all the mortuary bills and cater for the burial expenses of the victims. We will also pay hospital bills for the two children who were injured in the accident,” said Mr Ranguma.
Ranguma who condoled with the families of the victims said the county is united with the family during this time of grief.
“My government joins parents, relatives, friends of the deceased and the people of Kisumu in morning the young lives that were lost,” said the governor.
He called on the authorities to take stern action on road users who break the law to commit traffic offenses.
“The police and the National Transport and Safety Authority must up their game to avert further losses of lives in our roads,” said Ranguma.
The children from the Awasi AIC nursery school were on their way home from school when a speeding saloon car veered off the road and hit them at Awasi junction.
The driver of the vehicle is currently in police custody.
