Former ward councilors in Kisii County are going to be compensated Sh2 Million each as an appreciation for the work they did for their residents when they were in leadership.
Those who were in leadership from the year 1999 -2013 are the only councilors who will benefit.
On Tuesday, Kisii county assembly passed the report submitted by county committee which needs the former councilors to get compensated as an appreciation.
Chitago Borabu MCA Albert Oino who chairs the county committee said the former ward councilors should get their compensation and a monthly pension.
“We need to appreciate our former ward councilors and that is why we tabled this report in this county assembly as one way of appreciating them," said Oino.
The money to compensate the councilors will be set aside by Kisii county government in the next financial year 2017/2018
In Kisii county, Only 400 former ward councilors who were gazetted are expected to get their compensation.
