Footpaths and cyclist lanes will be constructed in every urban center in Kiambu County in efforts to curb on accidents caused by boda boda operators and motorists, County minister for Roads and Transport Njeri Gatabaki ha said.

The minister said that the county has set aside adequate funds for the construction of the footpaths and lanes in all urban towns.

Speaking in her office at Kiambu headquarters on Tuesday, she noted that cases of accidents involving boda boda riders and pedestrians were on the rise.

“The county government is working on a plan to construct footpaths and cyclist lanes in all towns so as to reduce on accidents,” she said, adding that plan has the support of some local and foreign sponsors.

She also indicated that the county is formulating polices that will ease transport and movement of people in the county.

The minister said that the county is banking on proper roads for realisation of development.

Gatabaki added that the county government has partnered with local and foreign investors to improve on roads.

The Kiambu roads minister assured residents of the government commitment to improve roads infrastructure.

“All systems are working and want to assure Kiambu people that all roads will be repaired and renovated by the end of the year,” she said.

The minister also said that the county government is working on programmed to light up all streets.

She intimated that street lighting will encourage a 24 hour economy and also help fight instances of crime.
