In a bid to address increasing demand for housing in Eldoret town and its environs, the county government of Uasin Gishu has revealed plans to redevelop the old municipal council houses to modern storey buildings.
According to governor Jackson Mandago, his administration will seek to partner with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), the National Housing Cooperation and other investors in the project.
Speaking in Eldoret, Monday, Mandago expressed the need for the locals especially within Eldoret town to have access to low-cost housing.He admitted that affordable decent housing is still a challenge in Eldoret town.
"My government intends to partner with NSSF, NHC and other housing institutions to redevelop the old municipal council houses to modern storey buildings that will optimise on land use," Mandago noted.
"Talks are already ongoing and we hope the project will begin soon so that our people can have access to affordable and sufficient housing," he added.
The governor further said he will fully implement the Urban Planning Act and Zoning regulations and enforce compliance by all buildings in the town.
"I intends to put in place an Inspection and compliance unit to expedite on this," he said.
