Uasin Gishu's Department of Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries on Friday received a delegation from Bangladesh who are in the county to benchmark and learn from dairy farmers.
The delegation who paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Governor included Bangladesh Minister for Agriculture, Project Director, Livestock Services, Country Director- Bangladesh Heifer International M.Siddiqur Rahman, and CEO Kenya Dairy Farmers Federation David Bett among other delegates.
Receiving them in his office, the Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno noted the success of the county in subsidising semen by 50% stating that it has improved the quality of livestock breeds in the county.
“1000 new calves have been born since we came into office and our target is to improve the cattle breed,” noted Chemno.
“Within a short while we will have our farmers declared pedigree farmers,” added Chemno.
He further pointed out that the county is hiring 30 ward animal health officers and 6 veterinary officers to supplement the existing ones to improve livelihoods and realise the vision 2030 through improved animal production.
“Learn the best practices from us and soon we will come to gain knowledge on rice production in your country,” Chemno said.
The Director, Bangladesh Heifer International, M. Siddiqur Rahman said they are creating linkages between the two countries with the aim of creating a strong collaboration in agriculture.
“We are helping our country through agriculture to realise its vision of becoming a developed country by 2041,” said Rahman.
The Agriculture Minister from Bangladesh lauded the county government for the good work they are doing in terms of project implementation especially in improving livestock breeds by subsidising A.I services.
