The CeC says that inspection to get rid of buildings constructed without the county’s approval will start soon.

The official said that the move is meant to ensure safety of tenants adding that landlords must ensure that their buildings are inspected.

“We do not want to lose people as a result of buildings collapsing, contractors must ensure that they follow all the laid down procedures,” he said.

Gatimu also warned contractors against using weak construction materials saying they contribute to falling of buildings.

He asked tenants not to rent houses that are still under construction saying that legal action will be taken against them together with the building owners.

He added that the county is focusing on passing laws that will guide the construction industry.

The executive said that proper laws need to be put in place to retain sanity in the housing sector.

The official said that many real estate owners are being driven by greed hence poor construction of buildings.

County director of planning Hannah Maranga said that those who will fail to adhere to the construction laws will be arrested and prosecuted.
