Kisii County government has announced plans to set up a fire academy in the region.
According to Kisii county deputy governor Joash Maangi, Kisii County Government is working with the Polish International Aid to set up the academy.
"Once the academy is set up, disasters such as fires will be contained easily to prevent loss of property and lives," Maangi said.
Maangi assured that disaster management is key to the development of Kisii County.
"The county has witnessed fire incidents in the past few days where residents, traders have lost property worth million of shillings and this has come as a result of poor planning to address disasters," he said.
The DG said that the fire academy will help residents of Kisii County to acquire skills to help in containing fires and other disasters once they strike.
He called on residents to be more vigilant and embrace patience whenever fire breaks in the are saying tha residents have in many occasions thrown stones to county fire fighters who happens to respond late to fire incidents.
He noted that fire engines in the county are not enough but plans are underway to have more.
