The county government of Uasin Gishu has revealed plans to conserve all wetlands and dams by ensuring they are fenced.

Environment Chief Officer Simion Kemei says they have already identified and earmarked the dams and wetlands with the fencing expected go begin as soon as possible.

Speaking after hosting Environment Principal Secretary Charles Ole Sunkuli and Lake Victoria North Water Authority chairman Joseph Lagat at his office in Eldoret on Wednesday, Kemei said fencing of the wetlands is among the county strategies conserve water sources.

The PS on his part said the national government will partner with counties in ensuring all water sources are conserved.

"For a start, we will be workings with the county to conserve Leseru and Baharini Dams," noted Ole Sunkuli.

The county government has already banned car wash activities near Baharini dam with National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) also expected to shut down a quarry near the dam.
