Kisumu County is set to inject Sh500 million on road sector to cover 600km of roads, according to Physical Strategy Paper(PSP) 2015.

Speaking to journalists at a Kisumu hotel, Communication, Planning and Development Chief Officer George Akong'o said that in the previous financial year 2013-2014, the county spent Sh750 million for 525km of road network.

“Physical Strategy Paper 2015 is heavily moving from opening of roads to improvements and maintenance of roads,” said Akong'o.

“PSP captured the third year as the year of improvements. We will be selecting some roads to have tarmac and murrum roads will be maintained at ward level,” he added.

Akong'o also said that Kisumu County government wants to invest in water projects to boost agriculture.

“We want to do major investment on water so that we can prepare Kisumu County for much Agriculture systems,” said the officer.

“The commercialization of Agriculture has not effected well in the county due to challenge of water and most efforts irrigation scheme and green house can't take effect without water,” he added.

Okong’o further said that the county wants to pick on health docket, which is underfunded by the National Government.

“We have built a number of dispensaries and hospitals around the 35 wards,” said Akong'o.

“We want to complete these projects and equip them in readiness for use by the people living in the county,” he said.

Physical Strategy paper is policy document requirement by the County Government Act and required within public finance manager act, which ought to be presented to county assembly by February 28.
