Uasin Gishu County is planning to generate electricity from its garbage collection, CeC in charge of environment and energy Mary Njogu has said.
Speaking on Thursday during the launch of water towers program in Eldoret, Njogu said the county had rolled out garbage collection exercise and was planning to generate power out of it.
"I am glad that the county has tree planting activities throughout the year and collection of garbage. Our target is to generate electricity out of it," she said.
She added they are still in consultation with experts and relevant bodies on the matter.
"This is where we want to make good use out of garbage instead of being dumped. We are still in discussion with experts," Njogu explained.
Garbage from the county is dumped at Kipkenyo dumpsite in the outskirts of Eldoret town.
