Mombasa County Secretary Francis Thoya said the relevant authorities as well as water vendors associations in the region will be engaged in a bid to come up with a viable solution.

Thoya said the county is faced with a challenge of identifying legal water vendors, due to an increase in illegal water connections in the city.

He said the move has made it harder for them curb water shortage in the county, as some of the genuine vendors are accused of not abiding by the law.

“The county has been experiencing water shortages due to an operation that was launched, targeting water vendors who break the law. However, the problem will be solved once we meet with all stakeholders on Friday,” said Thoya.

The county government in conjunction with MOWASCO conducted a special joint operation disconnecting illegal water connections in the region, but the operation was stopped after it emerged it had a negative impact on the locals.
