Drainage systems at Daraja Mbili slaughterhouse will be improved before the facility will be re-opened, Ismail Bosire an agricultural official has said.
Bosire said the county agriculture committee will not ignore the residents’ calls to improve the environment in the area.
“Renovation works from in the facility is complete but the drainage systems outside the facility are poor and need to be improved to ensure there is no stagnant water which brings muddy and slippery at the facility,” said Bosire.
Bosire urged residents to be patient to give more time for the contractor to finish the work.
“We are hoping to re-open the slaughterhouse in the next one week that is if the contractor will complete repairing and improving the drainage patterns at the facility to ensure there is a free flow of water. We will also ensure there is plenty supply of water at the slaughterhouse for the workers to use when cleaning equipment being used at the facility for residents to get clean meat for consumption free from contamination,” he added.
He added that a perimeter fence will be constructed around the facility.
