The Uasin Gishu delegation in Norrkoping, Sweden on Tuesday had an opportunity to visit Haradsudden Landfill in Herrebro, where they were taken on a tour of the plant and the processes of solid waste management which included landfilling and leachate water management.
The team was later hosted for dinner by the Norrkoping Mayor Ms. Louise Malmstrom where Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago took the opportunity to appreciate the hosts for the partnership in waste management.
On Wednesday, the team visited Borg drinking water Co. and a public recycling center in Returpunkt Norrkoping, where they witnessed residents bringing in different types of wastes and sorting them precisely to their respective receiving containers, and other approaches to recycling.
They, later on, attended a meeting at the Norrkoping Water and Waste Company where Mandago expressed his concern in protecting River Sosiani from pollution.
He appreciated the techniques used by the Swedish government in preserving their natural resource from hazardous waste that emanated from landfill leachates.
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has set its primary targets on the project, among them is cleaning the city by entirely getting rid of wastes off the streets and off the estates as well as creating more space at the current landfill in Kipkenyo ward.
A campaign to have the residents of Uasin Gishu practice sorting of waste is also key to the success of the project.
