The county government of Uasin Gishu has launched an ambitious initiative that will see all health facilities equipped with cancer screening machines.According to the County's Health Services Executive Evelyn Rotich, the move is meant to help residents get the services closer to them."As at now, 77 out of 100 health facilities in the county are conducting cancer screening. Our aim is to ensure that all facilities offer these services by 2022," Mrs. Rotich said on Sunday during the World Cancer day celebrations in Eldoret town."We will also carry out sensitization on how to prevent cancer and what one should do if infected and the preventive measures. I also urge residents to stop stigmatizing people living with cancer instead they should embrace them since if you are not infected you are affected in one way or the other," she added. The County Executive however challenged locals to apply for the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) cards so as to enable them get quality health services at a lower cost."NHIF now covers over 80 percent of chronic diseases treatment, I therefore call upon residents to apply for the cards as this will help reduce cases of locals selling their property to settle hospital bills," Rotich noted.
