The County Government of Mombasa has embarked on a street light installation and repair programme across various roads in the county.

The programme, which is being carried out by the department of Transport and Infrastructure is expected to cover major roads in town by next month.

The repair team on Wednesday installed new street lights and replaced old circuits’ breakers and bulbs in Bondeni, Mwembe Kuku and Majengo wards in Mvita Sub-County.

The team had previously carried out the project in Kisimani, Barsheba, Sarajevo, Shauri Yako, Kisumu Ndogo and Idi Kumbi in Nyali Sub-County.

“It is just a matter of time and we will cover most roads in the whole of Mombasa town. As we do the good work, please never allow anyone to destroy any property because they are meant to benefit all of us. We are all people of Mombasa County,” said Mohamed Idris the county coordinator.

Last month the county government warned residents against vandalizing government property.

The county government said it will impose hefty fines on perpetrators.

The street light project will be launched in Kisauni next week.
