The county government of Uasin Gishu has set aside Sh314 million to be used to provide loans to cooperative societies .
Governor Jackson Mandago said the move is meant to address poverty and improve locals livelihoods.
"I want to urge residents to take advantage of the opportunities available to get loans which are given at a 5 percent interest rates," said the Jubilee governor after presiding over the issuance of tittle deeds to 74 teachers if Mwalimu Sacco, Saturday.
Mwalimu sacco initiated a Sh300 million revolving fund 2years ago for their members to buy land. The 74 teachers from Uasin Gishu Nandi and Baringo counties shared 20.5 acres of land that the Sacco bought for them.
The Governor who is also a member of the sacco hailed the initiative to promoting the agenda for building houses for their members.
"It's good that the Sacco picked on provision of decent affordable houses for its members which is part of the government's big four agendas," Mandago said.
National Chair Mwalimu sacco Teresa Mutegi said through the revolving fund they want to see that the living standards of the teachers is improved.
"We want to buy them plot and introduce them to the cheap technology of building homes," she said.
