The county government of Nyamira has announced it is expecting a donation of 200 wheelchairs before the end of the year.
Speaking at Chepilat Township on Monday during the crackdown on smugglers of medicines from public hospitals, county chief Health Officer Douglas Bosire said the county had procured 200 wheelchairs that will serve those registered under the department of persons living with physical disability.
Bosire said issuance of the chairs had been delayed after the county government returned them to the supplier for further modification to suit those unable to walk completely.
“We had secured 200 wheelchairs for persons living with disability and I am happy to announce that before the year ends they will have received them. The issuance should have taken place a while ago, but we had to return them to the supplier for modification,” he said.
Bosire urged those who hadn’t registered with the official county department for persons with disabilities to do so for future consideration.
“The county government is always ready to work with all without discrimination. We are aware that some people may not have registered meaning they will not benefit.
However, that doesn’t rule out them. They should consider registering so that in future they are factored in such exercises,” he said.
Bosire said the official issuance day will be announced at all sub-county headquarters with the main function expected to take place at Nyamira Level Five Hospital.
