[Photo|County Government of Uasin Gishu]Uasin Gishu County Government through the department of Alcoholic Drinks and Control Board will at the end of the week begin an extensive and vigorous inspection to all liquor premises in the entire County before issuing 2018 liquor licences.Speaking during a meeting with various sector heads at the County Headquarters, Alcoholic Drinks and Control Board Director Silas Boit said the department is keen in reducing the number of licensed liquor premises in the County.He said all premises that applied for liquor licences would be inspected by a team of County and National officials to find out whether they meet the set standards before being granted a licence to run the business.He added that once the inspection is completed, a list of licensed liquor premises would be shared out to all the stakeholders for monitoring purposes.He noted that the number of applications for the licenses had reduced drastically from over 4000 in the past years to 990 in 2018 adding that as a department, they had been able to reduce the number of the drinking sprees to a manageable number.“I am confident that going forward the number of licensed bars and pubs will reduce because not all the 990 that applied for the license will meet the required standards” said BoitThe department had in November last year placed an advert calling for liquor licenses application which lapsed on eve of Jamhuri Day. "Members of the public will be allowed to voice their concerns before the licenses are issued. Public interest supersedes individual business need," he said on Wednesday.He warned those with intentions to operate the business without a license will be met with the full force of the law.
