Speaking on Monday at Gusii Stadium, Governor James Ongwae said his government will help farmers in the county better their produce by subsidising the cost of acquiring seeds, fertiliser and pesticides and will also help them find a market for the goods.

He asked farmers organisations and cooperatives’ to develop modern ways of packaging their produce as a way of value addition to reach the world market. Governor Ongwae said his government has prepared a bill that is ready to be tabled in the county assembly that will protect farmers from spending huge amounts of money on farm inputs.

“My government has put in place measures to ensure the agricultural sector does not have poor tools of trade and protect farmers from con people,” said Ongwae.

He however noted that they have a challenge of few personnel in the agriculture department and promised to work on it as soon as possible.
