Uasin Gishu government will partner with the Canadian government and corporations in training on agri-industrial technology so as to maximise on-farm utilisation.

Governor Jackson Mandago said despite the North Rift being referred as the grain basket, utilisation of farms has never been optimal.

"Farms, particularly in our county, is only produced in less than six months every year, that is when we receive rain, the other dry months, our farms remain initialized,” he said after hosting the Canadian Ambassador to Kenya  Ms. Sara Hradeck in his office, Monday.

“It is through training and adoption of agri-industrial technologies, where our farmers will be able to irrigate their farms and earn more by planting crops even when there is no rain,” he added.

He also reiterated that apart from irrigation, county government will also partner in the field of water and animal health technology for farmers to practice agribusiness.

Ms. Hradeck lauded the visionary leadership of Uasin Gishu, especially the County's program of sponsoring students to acquire technical skills.

"The Canadian Government is interested in partnering with Kenyan Government to offer training on technological skills.I am personally pleased that as a county, you have appreciated that technical skills are important," she said.
