The work will jointly be done by the county government in partnership with the office of the Inspector General of Police.

Governor Alfred Mutua announced the plan on Friday when he met IGP Joseph Boinnet at his office in Machakos town.

"During our wonderful meeting, we agreed on a partnership for the rehabilitation of police stations," he said in a statement after meeting Mr Boinnet.

"We also initiated a process for future cooperation for the construction of decent houses for police."

Mr Boinnet is on a countrywide tour of counties.

"I am keen on making Machakos the safest region," Mutua added.

"This is by partnering with all concerned and by ensuring crime is prevented and when it occurs, it is dealt with expeditiously."

Boinnet on his part said he was keen to improve working and living conditions of police officers.

Machakos is among the counties with the least crime incidents.
