Kisii County Government has announced plans to recruit 500 nursery school teachers.
According to the officer in charge of education Amos Andama, the 500 teachers will be employed before the end of this year.
"500 nursery school teachers will be employed to help the 1,000 teachers who have already been employed in teaching the increased number of pupils who have enrolled in public schools since the national government started offering free day primary and secondary education," he said.
Andama said Kisii County has the highest number of ECDE teachers employed compared to other counties.
He said the 500 teachers will also help in addressing shortage of teachers across the county.
"We are committed to ensure the issue of shortage of teachers in the county becomes a past tense. Qualified teachers will be asked to apply to fill the posts once advertised," he said.
Andama warned county workers against misleading members of the public especially parents to give bribes so that their sons and daughters can be employed.
He added that ECDE classrooms will be renovated and be equipped to achieve quality education.
