Nyamira County government is set to employ at least thirty youths per ward in its latest youth stimulus programme that is scheduled from Monday next week.
The programme will see at a total of 600 youths from the twenty wards recruited and mandated to get training on social-economic activities, after which they will be empowered to venture into various economic activities.
Speaking during a funeral at Mogombo ward, County Governor John Nyagarama said the exercise will be free and fair and warned the ministry of youths against shortchanging youths who had applied.
“The county government has established a youth stimulus programme from which we will recruit at least 30 youths per ward. They will receive training in various skills and from which they shall be empowered to venture into various economic activities,” he said.
“Those who will be lucky will expected to teach others and the county will give them Sh800 per month as a reward. We expect them to make saving that can help them get out of poverty. I expect that transparency will be observed,” he said.
Nyagarama warned youths against being used by politicians for their selfish gains and challenged them to venture into social-economic activities.
“We don’t want to see our youths being used carelessly by politicians who are only after their own selfish gains. Time has come for you to do something constructive for your own good. Being used by other politicians cannot help us get out of poverty. Let us think out of the box,” he said.
