Uasin Gishu County government is determined to revive all collapsed cooperative societies.
According to CeC in charge of Trade Philip Melly, most cooperatives collapsed due to poor management.
"In the county, we have 562 registered cooperatives, in which 300 are farmers' cooperatives. 60 are active while the rest are dormant," Melly said.
He added that cooperative officials should be transparent and avoid embezzling funds.
"We will play an oversight role and ensure every single cent goes to right work, since corruption is the key reason of cooperatives collapsing," he said.
Speaking to journalists in Eldoret town on Wednesday, Melly said the county assembly has passed legislation to ensure cooperatives are fully funded and revived.
"The county assembly passed Enterprise Cooperative Fund to inject funds to cooperatives societies where 11 benefited in this financial year while 32 will get in the next financial year," he said.
He also urged the youth to join cooperatives.
