A Sh 20 million state of the art research centre will be built at the Ruiru District Hospital, Kiambu County Health Executive Jonah Mwangi has said.
Speaking during the launch of the project at the Ruiru District Hospital on Thursday, the executive said that the project will be funded by the county government in collaboration with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri).
He said that the centre will be equipped with the state of the art facilities, a move he indicated will improve provision of medical services.
“We have partnered with Kemri to set up the research centre. The centre will offer training to medical students seeking practical experience at the hospital,” he said.
Mwangi intimated that the government has put in place adequate plans to improve healthcare.
He said they will partner with other state agencies and the private sector to ensure residents has access to proper medical care.
At the same time, the health executive alluded that enough funds have been set aside to buy medicine and equipment for all public hospitals in the county.
He said that no patient would be asked to get medicine from private hospitals and clinics noting that it’s the responsibility of the county to promote access to better healthcare.
